CICV Forum and CSIC to launch new Be Covid Smart digital learning toolkit

Posted: Monday, January 11th, 2021

The Construction Industry Coronavirus (CICV) Forum has teamed up with Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC) to create a new and innovate ‘Be Covid Smart Digital Learning Toolkit’, to help the Construction Industry in Scotland to get back on their feet.

The CSIC links business with academic experts and public sector providers and launched the training as part of a learning programme last November.

The online training programme is fully immersive and uses digital scenarios to raise awareness of COVID-19 safety. Its programmes are tailored to educating Construction workers on the COVID-safe best practices and explains the importance of safe working and how to identify unsafe behaviour.

The programme is available for all of the UK, making it accessible to any Construction worker or business who want to get involved and keep up to date with recent safety recommendations due to the pandemic.

Be Covid Smart includes a fun and easy quiz-based toolkit that can be accessed via most digital platforms, including your smartphone or tablet, hosted on the CSIC website.

“The Forum had identified the need not only for a safe return to work but also for reassurance for apprentices their families and employers.” says Iain McCaskey, Head of Devolved Nations at the Building Engineering Services Association and Head of the CICV Forum Skills Group, who is leading the programme.

“This innovative learning solution will not only raise awareness of safety in the current climate but also identify and test the user’s knowledge of the necessary steps to take to protect themselves and others.

“Be Covid Smart will be available to everyone within Scottish construction to use freely. However, initial targets will primarily be small site operators and companies employing apprentices, as we feel this is where support is needed.”

The toolkit will start by providing support for domestic work and apprentices and their colleges, and will explore the health and safety concerns that arise when working within a college workshop.

Lisa Deane, Future Skills Manager for the CSIC, will be on The Clive Holland Show to discuss more on Wednesday 3rd January 2021.  Tune in from 1pm or listen On Demand here.
