UK construction output will only recover gradually over the next two years — that’s according to the latest forecast from the Construction Products Association (CPA). The trade body expects the construction sector to grow by a little over 2% in 2025 and by hit 4% in 2026. The CPA previously predicted that output would reach 2.5% this year, but downgraded its forecast given the prospect of slower economic growth and persistently high inflation. The increase in mortgage interest rates at the end of last year has further contributed to the slower than expected recovery. --- A 68-year-old roofer has said he can’t retire, after an employee stole £200,000 worth of cryptocurrency from him. Peter Round initially hired Ben Noden to work alongside him roofing, but he then asked him to manage his crypto accounts due to his up-to-date computer knowledge. Over 13 months Noden cashed out the crypto investments, wrecking his boss’ retirement plans. Noden is due to be sentenced in February. --- Markel Direct has launched the second edition of its national A* Trade Apprentice competition. The eventual winner will pick up a prize bundle worth over £5,000, made up of a Festool toolkit equipment, insurance cover and a voucher from ITS.
