AUDIO NEWS: Workloads. up by 7% say builders and Scottish watchdog investigates green home energy

Builders are reporting greater signs of market stability, with workloads increasing in the second quarter – that is according to the Federation of Master Builders. 

The trade association’s membership survey found that workloads jumped by 7%, and new business enquiries were up 3%.

While the latest figures offer a “glimmer of hope”, Brian Berry, FMB’s chief executive warned that there was “substantial room for improvement.”

Despite improved workloads, over half of survey respondents reported lower than expected profits.

Consumer Scotland intends to investigate the ‘green home energy’ market, amid rising fears of “misleading claims, rogue traders and scams.

Scotland’s watchdog will examine whether those looking to invest in heat pumps, insulation and solar panels have access to high quality sources of advice, information and strong consumer protection.

Chief executive of Consumer Scotland, Sam Ghibaldan, said “while many early adopters of energy efficiency technology have had positive experiences, there are reports the sector doesn’t always enjoy optimal consumer confidence.”

A Blyth-based painting and decorating firm has introduced an apprenticeship programme for autistic individuals.

Justin Dobson, who owns Just Right Decorators has launched the programme to provide a “nurturing and supportive environment for young autistic people… to cultivate valuable skills.”

As part of the project, Just Right will offer free paintwork for select projects involving autistic apprentices.
