AUDIO NEWS: UK's historic buildings at risk of falling down and landscaper shot in gardening row

Posted: Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024

Many of the UK’s historic buildings are in need or urgent inspection to prevent fatal accidents – that’s according to Michael Arney, director of Artisan Plastercraft.

Arney was speaking this week, ten years after the partial collapse of the roof at the Apollo Theatre which injured over 70 people.

In the wake of the accident, managers of historic buildings were asked to check the safety of their ceilings.

But a recent Freedom of Information request found that only 11 advisory notices were issued to building managers by councils in London, since the incident.

Arney said: “We predict there are hundreds of buildings across London which need to be inspected – not to mention other areas of the country.”

A landscaper in the US was shot this week by an irate business owner.

Claudio Arrendell, the owner of P&P Auto Tire Shop in Miami-Dade, is suspected of shooting the landscaper after he blew leaves onto his property.

The victim was transferred to a local hospital in a critical condition.

And finally, former Hull FC full back, Jamie Shaul has returned to his career as a bricklayer.

Shaul got his bricklaying qualifications before his career in professional rugby league took off.

Rather than go into a coaching role when his playing days ended, Shaul opted to return to bricklaying.

Shaul told Hull Live going back onsite was a “no brainer”.
