AUDIO NEWS: Tradesmen are encouraged to join Dad Strike and pothole-related breakdowns double

Posted: Wednesday, June 4th, 2025

Tradesmen are being encouraged to down tools on the 11th of June and go on strike in favour of paternity leave reform.

Dad Shift estimates that less than 3% of the £3.3 billion spent in the UK’s paternity leave system goes to supporting fathers and non-birthing parents.

Research from OECD shows that Britain spends just 1.5% of its GDP on families — well below other European nations.

The campaign group is urging fathers to either join the world’s first Dad Strike in London on the 11th of June, or spend time with their families.

Pothole-related breakdowns doubled in the first three months of this year — that according to data from the RAC.

The breakdown company attended nearly 10,000 pothole breakdowns between January and March.

The data showed that drivers spent an average of £460 repairing damage caused by potholes.

England’s roads are in a dire state, with a fifth of councils reporting that 10% of minor roads are in a poor condition.

The Liquid Roofing and Waterproofing Association (LRWA) is returning with its charity challenge to raise funds for youth homelessness charity, Land Aid.

The trade body is encouraging teams of tradespeople to walk, run, cycle or swim as far as possible in 30 minutes, anytime between the 23rd of June and 11th of July.

All distances must be traced and submitted via apps like Strava.
