AUDIO NEWS: Trades United leads go slow demo in London and Select president warns about rogue traders

Trades United is leading a convoy of vans into London today to raise awareness around tool theft and prevent the resale of stolen goods. 

Tradespeople from across the country have joined the go-slow demonstration that will do circuits of Parliament Square to demand stricter enforcement of existing laws and greater accountability for organisers of car boot sales and markets that allow resale of stolen tools.

Shoaib Awan, founder of the campaign group Trades United said the protest would bring tradespeople to “Parliament Square for the government to see the distress that these thieves have caused.”

The outgoing president of Scottish trade body, Select has issued a stark warning about an increase in rogue tradespeople masquerading as qualified electricians to take advantage of the boom in domestic EV charger and solar work.

Alistair Grant, who steps down this week said Select members were reporting an “alarming rise” in shoddy and dangerous workmanship that needs to be urgently remedied by qualified electricians.

And finally, the Tories have promised to create 100,000 apprenticeships a year by 2029, if it wins the next general election. 

The ‘high skilled’ apprenticeships would be funded by closing what the Conservative Party described as “rip off” degrees that have the highest dropout rates and offer the least earning potential.
