AUDIO NEWS: Tool theft law delayed until July and tradespeople up in arms in Maidenhead

The second reading of an important tool theft law has been delayed until July.

The ‘Theft of Tools of the Trade Sentencing Bill’ put forward by Portsmouth MP, Amanda Martin aims to introduce tougher sentencing for those convicted of tool theft.

In a post on X, the Labour MP promised to keep on campaigning.

In March Martin brought together members of the trade, major brands, media companies and MPs at a parliamentary reception designed to raise awareness about the impact of tool theft.

Tradespeople in Maidenhead are up in arms after the local council launched a crackdown on parking trade vans near their homes.

The council has threatened to revoke parking permits over alleged rule breaking. 

The tradesmen in question have responded by calling the council hypocritical.

Tradie, Martin Ehrenstrasser told his local paper that he was facing a choice of either quitting his job or being forced to move out of his home of 20 years.

Two engineers from UK Power Networks saved the life of a retired doctor using first aid skills they had learnt at work.

Leon Smith and Marco Fenoaltea responded quickly after they heard shouting while working on a high voltage cable in Teddington Lock.

After assessing the situation, Smith immediately started chest compressions, while Fenoaltea grabbed the defibrillator from the van.

Nearly 5,000 employees at UK Power Networks hold first aid qualifications.
