AUDIO NEWS: TDUK warns about batten quality and plumber finds skeleton under client's bath

Posted: Wednesday, January 24th, 2024

Timber Development UK is urging the construction industry to pay attention to tile batten quality, after claims emerged online that chemicals used in the treatment of roofing battens cause health issues.

TDUK couldn’t verify reports that chemicals being used damaged roofing membranes and caused chemical burns among roofing personnel.

A statement from the trade body said it takes all claims of substandard timber products “very seriously.”

A plumber working the weekend at a client’s house discovered a pile of bones under the bathroom.

Jonathan Betts was working at a 200-year-old cottage when he made the grisly discovery. The 36-year-old said he started to stress out when he found “a jawbone with teeth!”

Betts unearthed over 20 bones from the sub-floor beneath the bathroom, which were later as the remains of a pig.

Betts later re-buried the bones, after discovering they had probably been put there to ward off bad spirits.

And finally, a roofer has been inspired by his paramedic wife to become an on-call firefighter.

Kevin Morland said his wife’s career had left him wanting to do more, so when the local fire station started recruiting, he jumped at the chance.

Morland, who has been a roofer for the last nine years said: “my wife works in the emergency services… and when I speak to her about how she helps people every day really inspired me!”
