AUDIO NEWS: Skilled trades are not reporting mental health issues and Screwfix Trade Apprentice crowned

Posted: Thursday, May 22nd, 2025

Tradespeople are not reporting their mental health difficulties, indicates a study of HSE data.

The report by Confused.com Life Insurance found that just 1% of employees in the skilled trades reported suffering from stress, anxiety or depression in 2024.

Over 776,000 workers from all industries reported mental health issues last year, with 720 working in the skilled trades.

Despite the low figure the construction industry has a skyrocketing suicide rate.

Government statistics estimate that two construction workers take their own lives every working day in the UK.

The industry’s suicide rate is over four times the national average.
