Consumers need greater protection from rogue traders in the emerging heat pump market – that’s according to a report from Consumer Scotland. The investigation by the consumer watchdog found that low awareness, poor industry regulation and con artists were delaying the shift to net zero. Sam Ghibaldan, chief executive with Consumer Scotland said there was a lack of trust in green technologies. He added the sector “doesn’t always enjoy optimal consumer confidence”. --- Construction insolvencies were down nearly 14% in April, compared to the previous month, claims data from the Insolvency Service. Construction firms still accounted for nearly 16% of all insolvencies in England and Wales, with over 320 firms shutting down. In total over 4,000 building companies have gone bankrupt in the last 12 months — an 8% drop on 2024. The insolvency rate is still way below its peak seen in the 2008-09 recession. --- A scaffolder in Norfolk has won a record £11.5 million, from a £1.5 online bet. Arron Freeman, who runs ASL Scaffolding won the life-changing sum, while playing a online slot game. The 44-year-old, dad of two, said his massive win was still soaking in.
