AUDIO NEWS: Plumbers have to fix installers work and builder becomes mental health champion

Nearly a third of people would consider a career in the trades – that’s according to a poll of over 2,000 people by Trade Up.

The research showed that flexibility, good salary prospects and stability were behind the growing interest in the building trades.

However, a lack of confidence over skills and fitting in with industry stereotypes was stopping people making the career switch.

The report also highlighted that access to funds for training and faster routes to becoming qualified were important if people were to join the construction sector.

A builder who saved a distressed teenager when he spotted her on a motorway bridge is now raising awareness about mental health.

Adam Jones, joined Reece Stapleton and two other members of the public who helped a distressed 16-year-old girl from the wrong side of a safety barrier on a bridge over the M4.

Jones who received a certificate of recognition from the local police for his ‘compassion and courageous conduct’, has now completed a mental health first aid course.

Builders renovating a cellar in Malmesbury have stumbled on an ancient well.

Darren Smith made the discovery after noticing a small hole in the floor of the basement.

Darren, working with the homeowner Robert Hastings have since begun work to restore the well. 

So far, the pair have retrieved coins, an arrowhead, and an ancient hairpin from the 22-foot-deep well.
