The government has committed to creating a consumer code for housebuilders and establishing a New Homes Ombudsman service that will help homeowners challenge developers over quality issues. This week’s announcement was a response to a report by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) released in February that investigated the house building market in England, Scotland and Wales. The CMA report concluded that; “the house building market is not delivering well for consumers and has consistently failed to do so over successive decades.” --- Nearly three quarters of construction workers believe the skills shortage will present a critical issue for the industry – that’s according to a YouGov survey. The poll, compiled on behalf of Safety Culture, also found a third of respondents felt the skills deficit was already impacting the sector. Two fifths of respondents also said that the skills and labour shortages were impacting their personal growth and development. Workers weren’t optimistic about the future either, with nearly 70% saying they expected the industry to undergo a further ‘brain drain’ as more people left the sector. --- And finally, a sports nutrition brand founded by a scaffolder is due to be listed on the London Stock Exchange with a valuation of £400 million. Applied Nutrition was founded by 40-year-old Thomas Ryder from a council estate in Liverpool.
