AUDIO NEWS: Knauf starts recycling scheme and homeowners don't want tradies to use their toilet

Posted: Friday, December 1st, 2023

Knauf has partnered with Encore Environment to reduce plasterboard waste.

Under the pilot project, contractors using Knauf products which opt into the Take Back Scheme are plugged-in to Encore’s network of vetted recycling companies.

Dedicated skips will be then dispatched to site, and when full, collected and brought to specialised local centres, where the plasterboard is broken down and returned to manufacturers.

According to the Waste and Resources Action Programme, plasterboard makes up to a third of all waste from fit-out jobs.

The Worshipful Company of Plumbers wants applications for its annual bursary awards.

The scheme helps plumbing students with financial assistance as they complete their second-year trailblazer apprenticeship, or as they start their Level 3 MES plumbing qualification.

The WoCP will consider bursaries of up to £1,000 for six plumbing students.

A third of homeowners say the loo is out of bounds for tradespeople, while they are working at their home.

The research by MyBuilder.com, indicates that the younger generation were more reluctant to allow access to the toilet, with nearly 50% saying they would deny access.

Those over 55 were more welcoming, with 80% saying they would allow a tradie to use the privy.

Andy Simms, trade expert from MyBuilder.com said that leaving a job to find a toilet was inconvenient and made the job “take longer”.
