AUDIO NEWS: Government slashes red tape for small builders and MI5 wants to hire a carpenter

Posted: Wednesday, May 28th, 2025

The government plans to slash red tape and ease environmental rules for small house builders.

Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner unveiled a wide-ranging support package on Wednesday, including a plan to scale back biodiversity net gain demands, making it easier and cheaper to build on small plots.

Rayner pledged to make small housebuilders the ‘bedrock’ of the government’s plan to deliver 1.5 million homes.

The Federation of Master Builders said the changes represented a major boost to micro and small housebuilders.
