The government has set up a National Housing Bank to turbocharge house building. The publicly owned bank promises to deliver an extra half a million homes, unlock ‘billions’ in private sector investment and create more jobs. The National Housing Bank, which will operate as a subsidiary of Homes England will also support small and medium sized builders through new lending products. The bank will allow Homes England to issue government guarantees directly and “have greater autonomy and flexibility to make long term investments that are needed to reform the housing market.” --- The plumbing and heating industry needs to ‘urgently’ bridge the skills gap ahead of the introduction of the Future Homes Standard. The warning was issued by the Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering (CIPHE) after it was confirmed the standard would be published later this year. Proposals in the standard include mandatory solar panels and low carbon heating systems for new builds. Recent figures suggest that over 73,000 new plumbers are needed by 2032. --- An 18-year-old decorator has a bright future ahead do him after he scored his first Super League try.
