Gen Z don’t understand the earning potential of working in the trades – that’s according to a survey about young people’s perceptions of the building industry. The Gen Z Trade Pulse report released this week, revealed that most 14–25-year-olds thought tradespeople’s earnings were in-line with the national average of £27,800 per year. In reality, trades such as plumbers, electricians, plasterers, scaffolders, bricklayers and carpenters commonly earn well in excess of the national average. The survey had been compiled as part of the Get In campaign, which aims to attract more young people into the trade. --- The Energy and Utilities Alliance has called the decision to go ahead and implement the Clean Heat Mechanism, from January disappointing. The mechanism imposes a £3,000 fine on manufacturers for every missed heat pump sale. The industry had hoped the scheme would take into account the recent Net Zero re-set by the Rishi Sunak, where he admitted not all homes were suitable for heat pumps. --- And finally, a seasoned scaffolder has released a book detailing the most outlandish and absurd excuses used by fellow scaffs to skip work on a Monday morning. Monday Club, by Callum Worth, a scaffolder with 15 years’ experience, lays bare the wild creativity of scaffolders when it comes to avoiding the start of the work week. --- To listen to the construction news please click below.
