AUDIO NEWS: FMB look on the bright side of construction figures and police nab took thieves

Posted: Wednesday, January 10th, 2024

The latest construction output figures offer hope for the industry in 2024 – that’s according to the Federation of Master Builders.

Despite a continued drop in construction output in December, the stats showed that the rate of decline is easing.

Brian Berry, chief executive of the FMB, said the data showed signs of progress, but the government mustn’t take this as “job done”.

“House building rates are still continuing to decline, and a comprehensive action plan is necessary if the UK is to deliver on the increased confidence of construction companies.”

Three men have been arrested in Leicester after a spate of van and tool thefts in the local area.

The investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Chris Gamble urged tradespeople to be careful and where possible to remove tools from vans when they are parked up for the night.

He said: “Tackling crime of this kind is a priority for the force and we will continue to investigate reports and carry out enforcement activity to target those who commit these offences.

And finally, a bricklayer from Sprowston has published his second novel.

Marcel K Andrews’ book, The Silvergate Restoration is an adult comedy based on his experience re-building a set of 18th century cottages in Norfolk that had been destroyed by a fire.

The 61-year-old bricky said: “This is the story of the building trade that I always wanted to write.”
