AUDIO NEWS: Electric vans improve range and payload, and a joiner gets dragged down the road by thieves

Posted: Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025

The range of electronic vans has increased by nearly 40% over the last five years — that’s according to research from Leasing.com.

The average range on an electric van has risen from 144 miles per charge in 2020, to 198 miles in 2025, or roughly the equivalent of a trip between London and Manchester.

The average payload of an electric van has also risen by 5% over the last five years.

Mike Fazal, chief executive officer of Leasing.com said that despite growing momentum in the electric van market, “infrastructure and costs remain barriers” to adoption.

A joiner was dragged down the road by tool thieves as he attempted to prevent them escaping.

Luke Yardley was working in Burnley when he caught a gang of men stealing tools from his van.

He was trying to wrestle back his tool bag from a black VW Golf, when the car sped off, dragging him behind.

Yardley eventually let go and was left in the road with cuts and grazes.

The 33-year-old reckons he lost around £1,000 worth of tools.
