AUDIO NEWS: Demand for kitchen and bathroom work remains strong and HSE plan site crackdown

Posted: Monday, August 21st, 2023

The kitchen, bedroom and bathroom installation sector could be on the brink of a ‘golden age’ of refurbishment, claims a market analyst from Zonda.

Todd Tomalak, principal of the Advisory of Building Products, said that despite tough market conditions, the desire to complete home refurbishment work remained strong.

Tomalak predicted the industry could “see a wave of pent-up remodels occur in kitchen and bathroom that is larger than what we’ve seen in several decades.”

The Health and Safety Executive is promising a crackdown on site safety from September.

It’s the second round of inspections this summer after a series of visits in May and July were carried out to police harmful dust emissions.

The announcement comes shortly after Michael Jones died from a serious head injury while working on Everton FC’s new £500 million stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

HSE has not linked Jones’ death with its plan for additional site inspections.

Eight installers have made it into the semi-finals of the Screwfix Top Tradesperson of the year Award.

They will compete against 19 other leading tradespeople from across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, who were selected from over 1000 applications.

The eventual winner will be crowned at Screwfix Live in September, and take home a bundle of tools, tech and training worth £20,000.
