CHAS is lobbying construction businesses to pledge greater support for mental health in the industry. The initiative was sparked by a survey of over 1,400 construction workers, by partner firm Causeway Technologies, which showed over half were either presently facing or had encountered mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. 12% of the survey’s respondents also said they had or were experiencing suicidal thoughts. CHAS managing director, Ian McKinnon said “we are urging our CHS contractors to sign the pledge to provide mental health support for their workforce.” --- A procurement group launched this week claims it will help small contractors and housebuilders save money on materials. Inprova Commercial Procurement aims to leverage existing relationships with manufacturers and merchants, so SME contractors and builders can access materials at consistently competitive prices. The group plans to remove price uncertainty when purchasing materials and introduce a pre-determined and structured payment system. --- Outspoken TikTok plumber, Fraser Hoehle is encouraging his fellow tradespeople to stop complaining about apprentices being on their phones. Hoehle suggests it’s better to get youngsters to start contributing content that inspires them and helps the business. Hoehle told the Sun: “I get it’s not a traditional apprenticeship, but times are changing and so must the industry….
