AUDIO NEWS: Builders uninformed about heat pumps and retired bricky enjoys greyhound success!

Posted: Monday, March 25th, 2024

Over half of builders in the UK do not have enough knowledge to advise on heat pumps – that’s according to research from E.On.

Despite builders reporting an 82% increase in interest for sustainable renovations over the last year, they are either misinformed or uninformed about heat pumps, meaning the customer interest is often “stalled before the point of installation.”

The report also found that 44% of respondents wouldn’t recommend a heat pump to customers because they were unaware of the benefits.

The Construction Industry Training Board is sitting on over £100 million despite the ongoing skills crisis.

The training organisation, which is funded mainly by a levy from contractors, took in £170 million in the last financial year and handed back £85.3 million in grants.

CITB ‘s spokesperson said the cash pile had built up due to contractors being “focused on areas other than training”.

The board also reported that it was seeing “the demand for training and claims for grant[s] increase.”

And finally, retired bricklayer turned greyhound trainer, Kevin Ferguson made history last week when his dogs swept the top three places in the BGBF Breeders Stakes Grand Final.

Prior to the race, Ferguson had never won a Category One competition despite his lifetime in greyhound racing.

Ferguson said he would now “die a happy man” after achieving a lifetime goal.
