The average wait for a UK tradesperson is now five weeks – that’s according to a survey from IronmongeryDirect. Manchester has the longest waiting lists, with customers on hold for an average of six weeks before work began. In contrast, customers in Sheffield were waiting for just three weeks before a tradesperson began work. The survey claimed that roofers had the longest waiting lists with clients waiting for up to nine weeks. Locksmiths, joiners, scaffolders and carpenters all had waiting lists above the five-week average. --- An industry commission is urging the next government to close a £44 billion ‘growth gap’ between London and other cities in the UK. The Inclusive Growth Commission’s initial report said that a lack of investment in transport, housing and infrastructure is holding back cities across the UK. The report said insufficient investment in physical infrastructure was making regional cities difficult and expensive to live in, compared with the capital. --- A 63-year-woman stopped tradesmen using her toilet and asked them to wee in the bushes, while working on her home. Emma Person had hired the tradesmen to repair her fence but refused them entry to her home to use her £10,000 loo.
