The Scottish charity has taken over the former Mary’s Meals shop and next-door storage room on Stevenson Street, but it needs lots of work, West Coast Today reported. The charity gives practical and emotional support to help parents give their children the best start. Home Start Lorn plans to use one side to create space for staff to work from and deliver one-to-one support, and the other side will be turned into a Family Centre. Both properties are in urgent need of a complete redesign, including flooring, walls painted, electrics, plumbing and more. The charity is reaching out to contractors, companies, or businesses that can help expedite this process. Financial donations are also welcome. A spokesperson for Home Start Lorn said: "We really want to make this a community-led project, so all ideas are welcome, and we hope it becomes a space that everyone can enjoy. "Our vision is to create a safe and fun space for families to meet other families to build on their support networks, a space for professionals to meet with families in a neutral setting and a quiet area for families to receive one-to-one support and or access to staff should they need someone to talk to." The charity will also run weekly groups from the space and develop those groups into workshops and classes to help parents develop skills from writing housing applications to cooking classes, applying for jobs and college courses to learning trauma training, infant mental health, first aid and child development. All of that support will come free. "Any help is greatly appreciated. We believe this centre will make an incredible impact on our community and the families’ lives within it," added the spokesperson. The hope is that refurbishment will start before the big move from its current Lochside Street premises.
