Demand for aircon and other home cooling measures skyrockets, construction job vacancies climb, and tradespeople warned not to overload vans
The demand for air-conditioning in the UK has tripled over the last year — that’s according to data from Mybuilder.com.
Just within the first week of June, requests for aircon services on the job platform leapt by 850%.
Britain’s record-breaking summer temperatures have also driven enquiries into other home cooling measures, such as ceiling fans, window shutters and outdoor awnings.
Company spokesperson Andy Simms warned that UK homes, which have been designed to retain heat, have become “heat traps” during the summer.

In comparison, vacancies across the wider economy dropped to their lowest level in five years.

Tradespeople are being warned not to overload their vans, after 300 cases were prosecuted in the last year.
The research from Tempcover, found loading offences accounted for over two-thirds of all LGV cases and resulted in nearly £11,500 worth of penalties.
A spokesperson for the firm warned that when breaches were serious enough to reach court, the consequences were severe, including convictions and “fines running into thousands of pounds.”
