AUDIO NEWS: Construction output rises in Q2, and lack of water stalls building plans

Construction output rises by 0.3% in the second quarter, a lack of water stalls building plans and construction degree apprenticeships are up by 95%!

Construction output rose by 0.3% in the second quarter — that’s according to government figures.

The main driver for growth was an increase in new infrastructure work, which improved by 1.9%.

However, a spokesperson from BCIS warned that overall growth could not disguise a weakness in the work pipeline.

Total construction orders fell by nearly £12 million compared with the first quarter, due to declines in both private commercial work and public work.

New construction output has now contracted year-on-year for the last two quarters.

A lack of water could derail plans for a million new homes, claims new research.

A report from Water UK claims that in some parts of the country, there is just a 2% buffer between the available water volume and what is used.

Stalled applications to build reservoirs and complex planning rules have slowed down attempts to build new water infrastructure.

The trade body recommended fast-tracking planning permission for new water schemes.

Construction and architecture degree apprenticeships have jumped by 95% in the last two years.

The report by the UVAC comes just seven months after funding for level 7 apprentices, aged over 21, was drastically cut.

A spokesperson for the UVAC said demand for university apprenticeships had never been higher.
