Starting a trade business is one of the clearest routes to entrepreneurial success, Mates in Mind launches mental health course, and a builder nearly misses out on £1 million lottery win
Starting a business in the construction trades is emerging as one of the clearest routes to entrepreneurial success, claims a report from Tradify.
The analysis of over 3,000 UK trade businesses found that the average revenue across six major trades had increased by 14% year-on -year.
According to the study, HVAC and refrigeration firms generated the highest average revenue, while carpentry and renovation businesses recorded the strongest annual growth.
The data challenges the assumption that going to university was the only route to financial success.

A free suicide prevention course designed for construction workers has launched online.
Developed by Mates in Mind, the training aims to increase understanding, encourage people to seek help and end the stigma of mental ill-health.
Research from the charity indicates that intense workloads, financial problems and poor work/life balance often heighten stress and anxiety among self-employed tradespeople to severe levels.

And finally, a builder almost missed out on a £1 million lottery win after ignoring what he thought were ‘sales’ calls.
Mark Jefferson said it was only by chance he picked up a call from the National Lottery after nine days of avoiding their attempts to reach him.
Even when he was told he had won the jackpot, he thought the idea sounded completely ridiculous.
