Report highlights alarming scale of electrical safety incidents, HBF calls for return of the Help to Buy scheme, and Nick Knowles invests in the Cornish Pirates
Nearly 90% of sparkies have experienced electrical shocks, arc events or unexpected energisation while working, claims new research.
In the survey by Martindale Electric, 64% of respondents said they had witnessed safety incidents involving other electricians on the job.
Fifty five percent of electricians also admitted they had not formally reported the most recent near miss.
A failure to follow isolation procedure was blamed for the high number of safety events.
Of those that didn’t follow procedure, 46% claimed they were confident the circuit was already dead, while a quarter blamed time pressure.

The Home Builders Federation (HBF) is lobbying the government to bring back the Help to Buy scheme.
The original scheme, which ran between 2013 and 2022, helped more than 300,000 people, many of them first-time buyers, purchase a home.
Housing supply also doubled.

The Cornish Pirates are embarking on a new era, after investment from DIY SOS frontman Nick Knowles.
The Championship rugby side confirmed the TV presenter had brought in a film crew to produce a documentary series highlighting the importance of rugby to the area.
Knowles said the series would be good for the club and Cornwall’s economy.
