Tool theft incidents are down in the last 12 months, metal prices jump due to Iran war, and a site manager wins at the Epsom Derby due to 'spooky' racing tip
Tool theft incidents are down significantly in the last 12 months — that’s according to Trades United founder Shoaib Awan.
Several factors have contributed to the improving situation, including a series of high-profile police raids on car boot sales.
Although the police have successfully restricted the public sale of stolen tools, criminals are now selling more stolen goods online.
Awan also believes that the increased media attention around the issue has forced criminals underground.

The conflict in Iran is having a serious impact on metal prices.
Since the war began, the price of aluminium has jumped by 21%, European steel has increased by 6%, and copper is up by 5%.
Paul McFadyen, chairman of Metals4U, warned that the price hikes were bad news for the construction industry.

A construction worker who followed a racing tip from a time capsule just won big at the Epsom Derby.
The capsule, from 1964, contained a note and four coins, explaining that they were the winnings from a horse called Santa Claus.
It urged the finder to place a bet on a horse with a similar name.
Site manager, Josh Smalls, then put a £20 bet on Christmas Day. The horse then romped home at odds of 7-to-1.
