AUDIO NEWS: NRFC raises alarm about the dangers of silica dust and a plumber gets £200k compensation

Roofers warned about the dangers of silica dust, a plumber wins compensation from his bosses and infrasound from pipes is responsible for spooky feelings

The National Federation of Roofing Contractors has launched an awareness campaign about the dangers of crystalline silica dust.

The dust is often released when cutting tiles, slates and mortar.

Repeated exposure over time can lead to life threatening conditions such as silicosis, COPD, kidney disease and even lung cancer.

NFRC wants roofers to adopt safer behaviour, such as using water suppression and wearing suitable facemasks when cutting materials.

A plumber who was attacked in a row over a broken radiator has won up to £200,000 compensation after suing his bosses.

Thomas Browne had his hand crushed in a door and was punched in the face by a man who had grown angry over a long term issue with his mother’s council property.

At the end of the four-day trial, the judge found that Browne’s employers, K&T Heating Services, should have flagged previous concerns about the angry resident.

Inaudible infrasound from old pipes, boilers and ventilation systems may be what causes ‘spooky feelings’ in older houses.

Scientists investigating the impact of infrasound found that volunteers became more irritable and stressed out when the noise was switched on.

The experts believe the inaudible sound waves may affect how people feel and give rise to paranormal suspicions.
