AUDIO NEWS: 75% of tradespeople concerned about the skills shortage and CSCS card fraudsters caught

Over half of tradespeople claim they turn down work at least once a month, CSCS card fraudsters convicted and an electrician takes on the three peaks challenge

Three quarters of tradespeople are concerned about the skills shortage — that’s according to research from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VCV).

Over half of the tradies questioned in the survey said they had turned down jobs at least once a month — an 8% increase on last year.

Bricklayers reported being the most affected by the lack of skill workers, followed by plumbers and electricians.

Three people have been convicted for fixing safety tests for CSCS cards.

A Met police investigation found the fraudsters had helped more than 70 people cheat an online health and safety exam using Bluetooth earpieces.

It’s estimated the gang made over £60,000 in the last year with the scam.

Police started investigating after the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) raised concerns about organised cheating at test centres across London.

CITB and CSCS were working together to revoke any cards obtained through the scam.

George Bean, who has also lived with depression and anxiety most of his life, said his new training regime had helped him by giving something to focus on.

The 26-year-old urged that anybody struggling with their mental health should reach out for help.
