AUDIO NEWS: Unpredictable workloads biggest threat to self-employed tradies, and plasterer wins £1.4m

42% of self-employed tradespeople say unpredictable workloads are their biggest problem, apprentice electricians dominate Screwfix finalist list, and a plasterer claims £1.4m prize!

Economic uncertainty leading to unpredictable workloads is the biggest challenge facing self-employed tradespeople — that’s according to research by The Accountancy Partnership.

Nearly half of respondents reported that high inflation and rising costs were affecting their businesses, and 40% said their clients’ budget cuts had reduced demand.

Despite the tough market conditions, many tradies remained broadly positive.

Nearly 30% said working without a boss was a key advantage of running their own business.

Electricians have dominated the list of finalists for this year’s Screwfix Trade Apprentice competition.

Of the ten finalists who will take part in the two-day final in London, five of them are trainee sparkies.

Over 3,000 people entered the competition at the start of the year, looking to take home the title and claim the £10,000 prize bundle.

A plasterer from Hinckley has vowed to give his daughter the childhood he never had after he won a £1.4 million prize.

Ashley Jacques spent £50 on tickets for the prize draw to a four-bedroom luxury home, a Rolls-Royce, a Lamborghini and cash.

The 29-year-old said he will use some of his new wealth to build up his business, but first wants to take his young daughter on her first family holiday.
