AUDIO NEWS: TUC calls for RIDDOR to include work-related stress, and contractors issue plea to new PM

TUC lobbies for psychological injuries to be included as part of RIDDOR regulations, contractors want the government to commit to infrastructure plan, and tradesman creates efficient way to cut insulation board

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) is calling for incidents of sexual harassment, bullying and work-related stress to be included in RIDDOR regulations.

The current reporting framework leans heavily on physical injury and disease, and fails to cover psychological trauma.

The union body also said that regulations need to be made more transparent and that workers should have the right to report incidents themselves.

The TUC had earlier been critical of HSE for excluding suicide, stress and burnout from the RIDDOR consultation process.

Leading industry firms have issued a rare plea to the incoming prime minister not to tear up the government’s £725 billion infrastructure plan.

The open letter, signed by 28 major contractors, consultants and institutions, came after the government’s recent decision to axe two major road schemes.

With the country preparing to welcome its seventh prime minister in a decade, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) warned that political churn was creating uncertainty for investors and contractors.

And finally, a Norwich tradesman, turned entrepreneur, has developed a more efficient way to cut foam insulation boards.

Jody Baxter developed his Slideguide tool while renovating his own home.

The 46-year-old believes his tool will help other tradespeople cut foam insulation, saving time and reducing waste.
