AUDIO NEWS: Andy Burnham promises council housing boom and tradespeople told to tidy vans

PM-in-waiting Andy Burnham pledges the largest council housebuilding programme since the war, BOB delivers £2m worth of projects and tradespeople told to tidy up vans!

Andy Burnham, widely expected to be the next prime minister, has outlined plans to create the largest council housebuilding programme since the post-war period.

In his first major policy speech, he also outlined plans to encourage young people to pursue careers in the construction industry.

His plans to redistribute power away from Whitehall to regional mayors could accelerate local planning decisions.

Burnham has an uphill battle to improve housing delivery. A recent Savills report predicted that housing numbers will likely fall in the next two years.

Band of Builders is celebrating delivering over £2 million worth of projects.

The construction charity, which specialises in ‘high impact’ home renovation projects for people associated with the construction industry, completed two more jobs in May.

Its volunteers have now finished 51 projects with an average value of £40,000.

Tradespeople with messy vans have been warned that cab clutter poses a serious safety risk— that’s according to MoneySuperMarket.

A poll from the insurer revealed that 32% of drivers weren’t aware of the safety risks, despite 1 in 10 admitting to having a near miss due to the mess in their cab.

Loose items can cause accidents, be a fire hazard, and even invalidate your insurance.
