AUDIO NEWS: The Lighthouse Charity delivers unprecedented levels of support, and tradesman raises money for charity

Construction charity sees huge jump in demand for its services, Hannah Spencer plans bill to govern safe workplace temperatures and a painter raises funds for Prostate Cancer Research

The Lighthouse Charity had to provide unprecedented levels of emotional and financial support to the industry in 2025.

According to its annual report, it saw a 42% jump in critical incident support, while also funding over 8,700 counselling sessions for industry members.

The charity warned that mounting pressure brought on by rising material costs and skills shortages was having a direct impact on the industry’s workforce.

Hannah Spencer, the former plumber, turned Green MP, intends to introduce a bill to govern safe workplace temperatures.

The MP for Gorton and Denton said the heat tradespeople were expected to work in was unfair.

And added it was absurd that no guidance was available.

If passed, the legislation would create an independent body to recommend maximum safe temperatures and outline how new regulations could be implemented.

A painter and decorator is raising funds for Prostate Cancer Research after his own shock diagnosis in 2024.

Jeff Titmarsh plans to take part in Sir Chris Hoy’s Tour de 4 in Glasgow in September.

The 67-year-old tradesman only discovered he had cancer when his clients — who were both GPs — recommended he visit a doctor.
