A campaign calling for emergency measures for the building industry looks for support, the building sector is not prepared for extreme heat, and a bricklayer wins £1 million
A campaign calling on the government to deliver emergency measures for the building industry is trying to drum up support.
Let’s Get Britain Building – Now!, wants to see people given more help to buy homes, the removal of VAT on building materials and refurbishment work, and reform of the planning system.
It is also calling on the government to address the ongoing construction skills issue.

The construction industry is not ready for the extreme heat, warns a report from the University of Reading.
In a survey of site workers and managers, nearly half said heat was causing project delays, while 55% claimed that the hot weather had resulted in additional unplanned costs.
The report also showed that while nearly 70% of managers felt the shaded areas they’d created were effective, fewer than half of workers felt the same.

A bricklayer in Aberdeenshire has won £1 million playing the national lottery.
The 60-year-old bricky, who chose to remain anonymous, now plans to buy a house and live comfortably, while helping his granddaughter with her studies.
