AUDIO NEWS: Think tank wants to freeze housing regulations, and a builder warns of traffic fine revenue trap

A think tank suggests freezing regulations on new build housing, a builder gets caught in a traffic fine revenue trap, and NFRC launches mental health initiative

A think tank is calling for the government to freeze regulations on new build houses for three years to stimulate the stalled market.

The white paper from the Prosper UK Housing Commission also suggests watering down both the Future Homes Standard and biodiversity regulations.

The think tank recommended shifting focus of energy efficiency measures towards existing housing stock, where the environmental impact and gains were “far greater”.

The cost of new build homes has risen by £76,000 since 2020, at least half of which is because of new regulation, policy and tax.

A builder believes he was caught in a revenue trap after a traffic camera hit him with a double fine.

Chris Bagnall was in Oldham when picked up two tickets for entering the end of a bus lane before it merged with traffic.

He later filed a Freedom of Information request and discovered the camera had issued over 4,200 penalty notices and raked in over £95,000 in a year.

The National Federation of Roofing Contractors has rolled out a mental health initiative.

The Weather the Storm campaign seeks to offer practical advice and guidance to those working in the industry.

A spokesperson said it was helping people to build small habits to sustain positive wellbeing.
