Citizens Advice handles 9,000 complaints about roofing work, a painter and decorator goes green and scaffold tube prices to rise in January
Complaints about roofers have risen by 10% in the last year to nearly 9,000 cases — that’s according to data from Citizens Advice.
Roughly 75% of cases involved shoddy workmanship; however, the remaining complaints were suspected scams often involving doorstep sales tactics.
A spokesperson warned that scammers often exploited the fact that customers can’t see the problem or inspect the repair work.
In response, the NFRC is recommending customers use only roofers that are part of a trade body, get multiple quotes, and check every detail before agreeing to work.

A painter and decorator from Chesterfield has put green business practices at the heart of his business.
Industry veteran Stuart Yates only uses water-based paints and has changed the way he estimates and purchases paint to reduce waste.
He also looks to recycle and reuse paint and other kit wherever possible.
Yates also joined the Painting & Decorating Association’s Paint Green scheme when it launched three years ago.

The price of scaffold tube could increase by up to 18 pence per foot from January, due to the introduction of a carbon border charge, warned Tube Industries.
The supplier said that final prices wouldn’t be known until each mill had verified its emissions data.
