The number of plumbers set to drop by 30% by 2039, millions of pounds to be cut from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, and Construction Edition raises awareness about testicular cancer
The plumbing workforce is expected to shrink by 30% if current employment trends continue, warns a report by JTL.
The training body estimates that over 25,000 plumbers have left the trade since 2018.
The declining number of plumbers threatens both the government’s housing building plans and the pipeline of data centre development projects.
The latest full-year data shows that just 2,150 people started plumbing apprenticeships in England.
Skills England figures suggest that 8,500 new entrants are needed each year to meet workforce growth.
Apprentices make up 5.2% of the plumbing workforce today.

Hundreds of millions of pounds will be slashed from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) to fund defence spending, claims a report in The Guardian.
Under the subsidy programme, homeowners in England and Wales can apply for a grant of up to £9,000 to swap their gas boiler for a low-carbon heating system.
BUS funding is widely credited with accelerating heat pump adoption. A spokesperson from Nestsa said cutting funding for heat pumps “makes no sense.”
