AUDIO NEWS: Rusted parts cost tradespeople time and the UK's fastest bricklayer goes for a world record

Rusted parts cost tradespeople time and money, one in five domestic jobs are delayed because homeowners can't find builders they trust, and Charlie Collison goes for a world record

Six out of 10 tradespeople face weekly delays caused by seized or rusted parts — that’s according to a survey from WD-40.

Additional maintenance work to get tools or parts working again has a wider operational impact, with over half of trades reporting job overruns as a result.

The research highlighted a strong culture of preventive maintenance, with nearly 90% of respondents claiming they regularly spend extra time cleaning equipment or lubricating components.

As many as one in five households have postponed work because they couldn’t find a builder they could trust, claims a report from the Federation of Master Builders (FMB).

The lack of customer confidence is costing the UK economy £11.2 billion a year.

More than two thirds of householders said a mandatory licensing scheme would increase their confidence in builders.

Brian Berry, chief executive of the FMB, called the report’s findings a “wake up call” for the industry.

The two-time Super Trowel champ, Charlie Collison, is attempting to smash the Guinness World Record for the most bricks laid in one hour.

He will attempt to lay 873 bricks in just 60 minutes at the Moreton Morrell Show later this month.

Collison told the local newspaper that he was looking forward to making the attempt in front of a crowd.
