AUDIO NEWS: Outdoor workers have to push through stress and Charlie Manby quits bricklaying and goes pro

Nearly 75% of outdoor workers experience stress, construction output creeps up in February and Charlie Manby quits bricklaying and goes pro

Half of outdoor workers said they face pressure to ‘push through’ through stress, claims research from Monster-Mesh.

The survey of workers in construction, utilities and the emergency services found that poor workplace culture was preventing employees from openly talking about their mental health.

Of those polled, 51% said they wouldn’t seek help because they felt they should be able to handle the issue on their own.

Mark McLennan, founder of Monster-Mesh, warned that almost three-quarters of outdoor workers were feeling moderate to high levels of stress.

Monthly construction output crept up by a 1% in February — that’s according to government figures.

The improvement was driven by a small uplift in new work and the repair and maintenance sectors.

However, those gains were insufficient to offset the decline in the overall three-month performance to February, which fell by 2%.

Charlie Manby, the bricklayer who stormed onto the world darts scene at the World Championship in December, has quit his day job.

Manby joined the pro tour via Q-School at the start of the year and recently signed for Target Darts.

Manby admitted he had a lot more time; now he “no longer had to graft for eight hours a day.”
