Households tighten purse strings as cost of living crisis bites, Charlie Collison smashes world record and a scaffolder runs between John O'Groats and Land's End
More than 18 million Brits are happy to use illegal and unqualified tradespeople as cost-of-living pressures continue to mount, claims research from the Gas Safe Register.
The survey found that over half of households have changed their spending habits in the last year, with many prioritising lower costs over safety, quality and peace of mind.
However, 51% of respondents also admitted that attempts to save money had backfired, leaving them paying more to have work repaired or replaced.
A spokesperson for the trade body warned customers that it simply wasn’t worth the risk to cut corners on gas safety.
