Heat pump complaints jump 24 fold in the last five years, trade bodies call for a safety first approach to plug-in solar, and a teacher calls for more focus on vocational training
Complaints about heat pump installations have jumped 24 fold in the last five years— that’s according to the Renewable Heating Hub.
The study of its community traffic shows that customers are facing a series of issues related to incorrect heat loss calculations and mismatched systems.
The spike in complaints tracks with the introduction of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) in May 2022, which led to a surge in heat pump projects.
Mars Mlodzinski, of the Renewable Heating Hub said the rise in complaints represented not just a quality issue but an industry reputation problem.

A consortium of electrical trade bodies has banded together to call for a ‘safety first’ approach to the rollout of plug-in solar panels.
The group that included the ECA and Select warned that it was unclear how the cheap solar PV units would interact with millions of existing electrical systems in the UK.
The introduction of the new units also raised questions over liability and insurance, should they be linked to the cause of a fire.

A former tradesman and now a plumbing and heating lecturer is calling for greater focus on vocational training.
Ian Hall said that despite the growing role of technology, the core of the work was still hands-on.
