Construction insolvencies rise in July, MCS enjoys a bumper start to the year, and an electrician gets stranded inside a truck stop sign
More than 330 construction businesses were declared insolvent in July, a slight rise on the previous month.
According to the government figures, the building industry accounted for 17% of all insolvencies in England and Wales.
Over the last year, more than 3,800 firms in the sector became insolvent. Although the figure is down year-on-year, it remains significantly higher than pre-COVID.
A spokesperson for BCIS said many businesses remained in “a difficult holding pattern” due to volatile energy prices and market uncertainty.

In total, the certification body claims it signed off 210,000 renewable projects between January and June — a 17% rise on last year.
Battery storage projects also doubled during the same period.
The data highlighted a growing trend for homeowners to combine multiple renewable technologies in a single home.
