The government promises to create tens of thousands of work placements, an electrician complains about van parking, and Band of Builders finishes its latest project
The government has pledged £96 million for construction training, in a move that will create tens of thousands of work placements on building sites.
It also unveiled plans to introduce V Level courses in construction design, bricklaying, and plumbing from 2028.
V levels will sit alongside existing A Levels and T Levels, offering students a mix of academic and vocational subjects.
Skills Minister, Jacqui Smith, said it was removing the “snobbery from hands-on learning” and putting it on par with academic courses.

A tradesman wasn’t able to park his van at a hotel, despite paying £400 a night for three rooms.
In an angry post on X, electrician Mark Allison said that tradespeople were being treated like second class citizens at some hotels.
Although the hotel in question relented when Allison complained, he believes it is not an uncommon problem when working away from home.

Volunteers from the Band of Builders have completed the house extension of a fellow tradesperson.
Vicky Maddox had been unable to complete the work after she had to quit her job and become the full time carer for her mother, who has Alzheimer’s.
With the extension complete, Maddox will be able to move her mother in with the family.
