AUDIO NEWS: Extreme weather adds to project delays for small builders and Vehicle Watch pilot launches

Extreme weather becomes the number one reason behind project delays, Vehicle Watch pilot launches in London, and 74% of tradespeople prefer the radio

Extreme weather has become the number one cause of project delays, claims a survey from the Federation of Master Builders.

Other major factors continuing to hold up projects include planning delays and market uncertainty.

Nine in ten smaller builders reported experiencing some form of delay over the last six months of 2025 — a 10% increase on the first half of the year.

With temperatures rising again this week, the trade body warned that extreme weather is becoming an increasingly serious operational challenge.

CT1, the Met Police, along with TVL and ProtectAVan, have collaborated on a Vehicle Watch pilot programme.

Volunteers in the scheme will have tamper-proof identification stickers on their vans that alert police patrols that the driver has pre-consented to a verification check.

The scheme, which will initially run in the London Borough of Havering, will enable police to identify and stop vans they deem suspicious.

Nearly 75% of tradespeople prefer listening to the radio while at work or in the van — that’s according to research from Installer Show.

Just over a third of survey respondents also said they regularly listen to personal playlists, while 11.6% play podcasts.

Oasis, Queen, a bit of Taylor Swift and Abba all proved popular among the trades.
