Scaling back the Boiler Upgrade Scheme would be a major blow, warn experts, construction output falls for the fourth straight month, and DIY SOS to be rested next year
Plans to scale back the Boiler Upgrade Scheme would be a major blow to contractors and consumers, industry experts have warned.
Last week, The Guardian reported that the subsidy programme could be reduced by ‘hundreds of millions’ of pounds to fund defence spending.
The ECA warned that contractors who had invested heavily in the provision of heat pumps would be burned by the withdrawal of a scheme designed to incentivise clean, green energy.
The CPA added that heat pumps were one of the few growth areas in a subdued housing repair and maintenance sector.

Construction output fell for the fourth straight month, according to the latest government figures.
Private housing was the biggest drag on overall performance, shrinking nearly 2% in August and over 3% over the last three months.
A spokesperson for AECOM said that high finance costs and market uncertainty continued to delay client decisions, meaning work struggled to move from planning to delivery.

The long-running TV show DIY SOS will be ‘rested’ next year, as the BBC embarks on a £500 million cost saving drive.
It will be replaced with a spin-off show featuring highlights from past episodes.
The show is currently in its 35th series on BBC One and iPlayer.
