AUDIO NEWS: 34% of tradespeople say their job harms their mental health and scaffolders save a woman's life

Over a third of tradespeople say that the job harms their mental health, 15,000 potential students could miss out on construction courses, and scaffolders save a woman's life

Over a third of tradespeople say their job is harming their mental health, claims research from Trade Direct Insurance.

Uncertainty around material costs, fluctuating demand and cash flow make financial pressure the primary driver of stress within the trades.

The research also identified that overwhelming workloads and the fear of tool theft were negatively affecting mental health across the industry.

Despite the size of the problem, many trades suffer in silence — nearly 20% said they didn’t speak to anybody about their mental health.

David Hughes, chief executive of AoC said the situation is “shocking”.
