Wigan sparkie helps raise funds to treat three-year-old girl’s rare brain condition
Posted: Friday, April 29th, 2022
An electrician from Wigan is raising funds for a third-year-old girl who has been diagnosed with a very rare, progressive brain condition. Karl Mather has been quietly contributing to Darcy’s GoFundMe page over the last eight months and also donated an iPad to a raffle to raise funds. Darcy has Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD), a degenerative illness that destroys the white matter around the brain, taking away her ability to walk, crawl, her cognitive development and speech. There is no cure for the illness. Darcy ‘s condition will drastically reduce her life expectancy. The funds are being raised to improve Darcy’s care and provide the best quality of life for her in the time she has left. Karl, who is competing in the Fix Radio’s Electrician of the Year category at next week’s awards, is hoping to raise funds for Darcy’s ongoing care. If you can contribute please click here.
