Warmur targets UK training revamp with skills academy acquisition

Posted: Wednesday, June 12th, 2024

Heat technology specialist Warmur has revealed that its acquisition of the Heating Academy training group will underpin plans to build skills for installing a range of hydronic systems, H&V News reported.

It shared that the decision to obtain and integrate the Heating Academy training system and its expertise into its operations will help it achieve its aim of building tools and training courses for new and existing engineers.

Under the terms of the acquisition, Heating Academy founder Kim Betty will join the Board of the new training group.

The group will provide services to anyone looking to train in the design of wet domestic heating systems, including heat pumps and modern boilers.

The new Warmur Academy will address concerns about the shortage of skills needed to design modern heating systems effectively.

A spokesperson for the academy said, “Less than one per cent of gas and oil boiler installers have been trained in the hydronic design requirements of modern heating systems (both boilers and heat pumps), yet good heating system design can mean the difference between high and low energy bills for households.”

The academy aims to offer an initial series of ‘hybrid courses’ that the group said would focus on the main principles for optimising the efficiency of heat pumps and gas boilers.

Future courses would also be developed to meet a range of requirements for learners with different levels of experience working on HVAC systems.

Warmur said it was also developing tools to assist installers in conducting home surveys and delivering more effective heating designs.

The company said that the Warmur Academy training programme being developed with Kim Betty would allow domestic engineers to expand their skills as part of a network of heat specialists.

It was also developing digital tools such as its ‘Kimbot AI job coach,’ which provides the Heating Academy curriculum online and offers in-person training.

One of the training academy's main aims was to ensure sufficient industry knowledge and skills for optimising the different heating systems needed to decarbonise properties in the UK.

Warmur Academy said it had worked with Betty, the founder of the Heating Academy programme, to make training on low-carbon heat more digestible and accessible.

Since the Heating Academy was founded in 2017, Betty has trained over 2,000 individuals in system design and engineering.

Through its partnership with Warmur, Betty is now committed to expanding this training programme to include over 100,000 gas and oil heating engineers nationwide.
