CITB and the Plant Sector Representative Organisation (PSRO) have worked closely to standardise plant training across the construction industry. This has led to the introduction of short-course training standards for plant categories that mirror plant operators' increasing requirements and responsibilities. The changes will ensure employers see a return on their investment by producing competent, work-ready plant operators who have received expert training. Phase three standards will cover the following confirmed categories: Christopher Simpson, head of quality and standards at CITB, said: “These changes will help standardise and improve the quality and consistency of plant training; increase the amount of plant training that takes place before testing; and increase the number of people trained in plant operations, particularly new entrants to construction.”
The phase one standards were updated in December 2024, and the second set of 19 standards was launched in June.
Once again, the standards are being developed in collaboration with industry working groups, comprising employers, training providers, and federations.
